Inspiring Future Engineers
October 2010
A “student-designed and community-built” playground was recently designed and constructed at A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School of Engineering in Greenville, South Carolina. Each student at A.J. Whittenberg was asked to draw what their dream playground would look like. After all the drawings were collected, a company specializing in custom design of playgrounds incorporated each idea into the final blue print.
Infrastructure Engineers Vice President, Jeff Rowe, volunteered to help construct this playground, which will inspire “an innovative engineering curriculum, community-involvement and healthy living.” When Rowe was asked about his volunteer experience he stated, “Being able to give back to the community is a standard here at Infrastructure Engineers. Helping build an interactive playground for students who may eventually become engineers was a lot of fun and was rewarding. The school is a great benefit to the community and the surrounding areas.”
The playground was finished on schedule and is now being utilized by the students attending the school.
