Our Projects: Inspection

United States Navy
Fracture Critical, Above Water and Underwater Bridge Inspections

Infrastructure Engineers was selected for a second cycle to perform bridge inspections in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, through their on-call contract with the US Navy.  Two of the bridges on the military base are fracture critical.  Since there are no bridge access vehicles on the base, Infrastructure Engineers’ engineer-climbers will utilize rope access techniques to complete a hands-on inspection of the structures.  In addition, these same inspectors, who are also commercially certified (ADCI) divers will perform the underwater inspection of the bridges.  Access to the base is difficult and requires weeks of planning to insure that all equipment and personnel arrive without delay so that the work can be completed.  Having engineer-bridge inspectors, who are trained in rope access techniques and commercially trained in diving, provides an advantage for inspecting challenging structures by reducing costs to clients like the US Navy.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
NBIS and Fracture Critical Inspections

Infrastructure Engineers will be providing inspection services as a subconsultant, for thirty-six fracture critical bridges in three counties within PennDOT's District 11. They will be a combination of National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and Fracture Critical Member (FCM) type inspections and will include core element inspections, i-form inspection forms, recommendations, and detailed reports for each structure.

Georgia Port Authority
Water Tank Inspection

Infrastructure Engineers
was selected to conduct a structural inspection of a 125-ftelevated water tank at the Georgia Port Authority Garden City Terminal in Savannah, Georgia. The inspection included both an interior inspection of the elevated tank as well as an exterior inspection of the tank and its supporting structure. An engineer-diver performed the visual
inspection of the interior of the tank as well as taking
ultrasonic thickness measurements of the tank walls.
Engineer-climbers completed the exterior inspection by
rappelling down the support structure, performing a visual
inspection as they descended.

Greater Orlando Airport Authority
GOAA Continuing Bridge Inspection Services

Infrastructure Engineers was selected by the
Greater Orlando Airport Authority (GOAA) to provide continuing bridge, sign, culvert and high mast light pole inspections in the areas surrounding the Orlando International Airport. Other services may also include studies and preparation of reports involving scope definition and validation of projects, design, bid
procurement and award, permitting, construction administration, technical support, and design management
support.

Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise – Northern System
NBIS Structures Inspection

Infrastructure Engineers has been selected for two consecutive cycles to perform inspection services on the northern system of Florida's Turnpike. The project includes structures in Hernando, Hillsborough, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Polk, Seminole, and St. Lucie counties.

U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs
NBIS Bridge Inspection

Infrastructure Engineers has been selected for two
consecutive cycles to perform bridge inspections and prepare an inventory of Indian-owned bridges throughout the United States. Inspections were both NBIS and underwater and included construction materials of various types. Equipment and personnel are transported nationwide to conduct the inspections, and engineering reports were prepared using the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ proprietary database system.

United States Navy
NBIS Bridge Inspection Worldwide

Infrastructure Engineers has been selected for two consecutive IDIQ contracts to perform routine and underwater inspections of waterfront structures and bridges located throughout the United States; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Exmouth, Australia; and Okinawa, Japan. Additional responsibilities include engineering calculations for structural analysis (with or without previous design calculations), documentation of
findings, and recommendations for follow-up actions,
including cost estimates and rehabilitation design of waterfront facilities.

Florida Department of Transportation – District Five
Sign Inspection (Five Cycles)

Infrastructure Engineers was selected to perform five cycles of inspections on all structural signs throughout District Five of the Florida Department of Transportation. A detailed inspection report was prepared for each structure. The project included traffic control for interstate highways. Non-destructive testing of welds was required to evaluate conditions at many sites. During one cycle, the firm did a structural analysis
of a sign without plans, creating as-built sketches and assigning ratings.

Mississippi Department of Transportation
Statewide Underwater Bridge Inspection (Two Cycles)

Infrastructure Engineers has been selected by the Mississippi Department of Transportation to perform two cycles of underwater bridge inspections throughout the state. Two bridges crossed the Mississippi River, while the majority of the crossings were over smaller rivers, creeks, and other water bodies. Each inspection required an in-depth engineering report with scaled CAD drawings illustrating defects.
